ONE MOVING PART PLANT (OMPAPA)
ACTIVATED SLUDGE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT
Sewage Treatment
– Is 20% to 40% lower cost to build, own and operate than existing state of the art activated sludge wastewater treatment systems from
• 15% to 30% lower capital cost associated with eliminating fine bubble diffusers, air blowers, sludge thickener, moving parts on clarifiers, and having fewer moving parts than conventional systems,
• 25%-50% lower O&M costs assocxiated with ease of maintenance of fewer moving parts system and dramatic reduction in power requirements compared to conventional activated sludge process,
• 20% to 40% smaller footprint compared to conventional actibvated sludge wastewater treatment plants, and
• 20% to 40% shorter time to design, build and start-up
– Can also achieve tertiary effluent design standards without additional processing.
– Permitting, designing, procuring, installing and operating of the pioneer plant at a site in Reserve, LA is expected to be completed in 2007.

The patented OM-PA-PATM (One Moving PArt PlAnt) technology represents a major breakthrough in the safe, reliable, environmental treatment of wastewater and sewage for towns, developments, and cities for the 21st century. The process consists of just one tank driven hydraulically. There are no ancillary sub-systems and associated pumps, no clarifier drive or traverse bridges. The foot print for the Om-Pa-PaTM plant is significantly less than the size of a conventional plant with equivalent capacity through the elimination of unnecessary subsystems. The plant achieves significant energy savings (up to 70%) since the entire plant operates using one fluid pump.
Because of the complete mix flow pattern in the aeration basin, there are no dead zones. This means that accurate control of the DO can be achieved easily in the Om-Pa-Pa in two ways; either through use of a variable drive pump in which more air is aspirated as the flow rate in increased, or by use of a valve on the pump that achieves the same effect.
Oxygen Transfer Efficiency >28% without membranes or acid cleaning is achieved through a synergy of the basin flow pattern and the mechanical dispersion of very fine bubbles. The air is aspirated into very fine bubbles in the in fluent and the inlet flow is directed in a torroidal pattern down the wall of the aeration basin across the bottom, up the center of the tank, and then radially outward back to the walls. Surface aeration (entrainment of air into the water) is also achieved and the flow pattern optimizes the transfer efficiency.
Clarification with multiple take offs eliminate short circuiting, allowing variable sludge age independent of detention times, sludge return rates, surface overflow rates, insuring effluent quality over a wide range of flows; eliminating the need for external pumps or mechanical clarifier drives.
